As customers do intend
to buy or sell now and then we have a small 'side line' of buying
and selling. One car we just got in stock and comes from a major
European collection and is owned by the same person for about
12 years . The car is quite special and of historical significance.
This is the gorgeous Torino Show 1961 and Geneva show 1962 Maserati
3500 GT I bodied by Vignale. The car was bought by Maserati from
Vignale after the 1961 motorshow and was the starting point for
their Sebring coupe interpretation.
However, this particular car is of great beauty and should be
considered a kind of 'Sebring silhouette'. All body panels have
been handmade as was common with prototype coachwork. It is also
extremely well executed with very smooth panels with excellent
fit. The car is much lower with wings closely enveloping the large
wheel arches. The roofline is different and also much lower. The
boot and tail section are different and the nose is low and mean
with a more prominent grille. The taillights are elegant and slim,
quite unlike the normal Sebring fittings. The car is a real beauty.
It has been restored at great expense in France in the mid 90-ies
and since owned by the same collector. He even had all glass replaced
and made to
order in England. The glasshouse is tinted green. Interior in
beautifully re-upholstered in the original quality of green Connolly
leather, made to special order and the outside is a very 'virgin
like' white (Polo Park).
The car is now on Borrani's wires (outer laced) but was at the
Torino and Geneva shows still on the Borrani bi-metallico disc
wheels. It is absolutely
original down to the smallest details. The dash features the huge
5000 type instruments and the chassis is equipped with a ZF 5-speed
gearbox and GT I
engine which runs very very well. The car is quick, brakes and
moves very well and due to it's low shape and compact sporty looks
it works elegant and aggressive at the same time. A really great
car!
As this is a one-off car it is easily to find back in about every
book on Maserati and every period publication on Torino 1961 or
Geneva 1962 show exhibits. It received great comments by the press
at that time and made it the starting point for one of Maserati's
most attractive big sixes after the war.
We have the exclusive right of selling this prototype automobile
and have not yet advertised the car.
This car is very suitable for V.d'E or Pebble Beach |
